New Bluebox podcast

June 27, 2006

FYI, I just uploaded our most recent podcast where Jonathan and I spent
large blocks of time discussing our view on what really happened with the
Pena/Moore VoIP fraud case and also the FCC's recent ruling on CALEA and
how that may or may not affect VoIP systems at different levels. To
download the MP3 file or listen directly from the page, it is:

http://www.blueboxpodcast.com/2006/06/blue_box_31_voi.html

And, yes, this is the corrected and re-edited version of show #31. If any
of you are among the 279 folks who downloaded the first version of show
#31 last Wednesday which sounded like a really bad rap mashup with the
intro repeated ad nausem, you can safely discard that MP3 file. I've
checked and double-checked this new one and it all seems okay. (And as to
why the MP3 file got so messed up, we talked about it in show #32 which we
have now recorded, but essentially it seems that I ran out of disk space
during one part of the post-production process and that may have caused
the file pointers to get all mixed around.) By the way, thanks to all the
folks who did contact me to let me know there was a problem with #31.

Enjoy,
Dan

Asterisk-Jobs.com upgraded and unleashed as version 3.0

June 26, 2006

One of our sister sites released a press release today. Check it out for all your Opensource VOIP Employment needs.

To all Asterisk Recruiters,

We are very pleased to announce the unveiling of the newest incarnation
of the popular, opensource VOIP jobs forum at http://www.asterisk-jobs.com.

We at Asterisk Jobs appologize for the inactivity for the past while.
It had come to our attention that the software running the job board
was unsecure, and allowed for multiple Vulnerabilities. The site also required
the use of register_globals, which is of course at the least undesirable.

We here at Asterisk Jobs take your information seriously, and decided to
lay low for a while while the site was upgraded to be the secure, robust
and working site you - our users expect.

And now without furthur ado, is the unveiling of Asterisk Jobs ver 3.0.
This site includes multiple fixes to the html, css and back end code.
The resume preview is also functioning now, and the ability to upload
pdf and png has been added, furthur allowing for easier use and maintainability
of your job postings.

Included is our newest offering of a Free Job Plan, for the smaller employer
or person looking to post small contract jobs. This free plan is not a
starter account, or limited in any way. The free plan allows for a small
amount of job postings, and resume reviews. If the need is there to search
and post for many jobs, such as a job recruiter then there is a paid plan
for a nominal fee. Companies can also make use of the featured companies section
of the site to furthur promote themselves for free using our site.

What are you waiting for, find that uber-asterisk-guru you've always been looking for,
or complete that overdue project with help from http://www.asterisk-jobs.com.

Thanks for your support!

Integrics releases Enswitch 2.1

June 23, 2006

Integrics is pleased to announce the release of Enswitch 2.1, a powerful and integrated solution for commercial telephony services such as ITSP, hosted PBX, calling cards, number translation, call shops and much more. This version includes:

- Calls can be authenticated by callerid for calls from the PSTN, account/PIN, and called number prefix for calls from VoIP (useful for connecting customers with Cisco VoIP routers), in addition to the existing SIP username and password and calling cards.

- The system owner and resellers can create pre-paid vouchers for sale in retail stores. Customers can use them to top up their accounts via web or telephone.

- Customers can view their calls in progress on the web. The system owner can view all calls on the cluster. This works on large clusters with multiple Asterisk machines.

- More features for controlling the layout of PDF invoices.

- Fax to email improvements.

- Web usability improvements for large systems with thousands or tens of thousand of customers.

- Initial system owner, reseller, administrator, and user guides on the Integrics website. Integrics customers and partners may copy these for their own documentation.

- Many other smaller improvements.

More details, including links to the feature list and a working demo of the web interface, are at:

Vishing? Of course it was only a matter of time!

June 23, 2006

Seems like some users of a particular bank in California were subject a new breed of email scam, this time instead of pointing the user to a phishing site, or url masked to look like the originating companies website. Instead, it was a phone number listed in the email to customers, which had a recording for customers to enter their information. Of course, this was done over VOIP, and will probably be next to intraceable with the current "openness" of VOIP.

Websense? Security Labs? has received reports of a new phishing attack that targets customers of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. Users receive an email message that is spoofed and has the subject "Message 156984 Client's Details Confirmation (Santa Barbara Bank & Trust)."

Unlike the most popular form of phishing where users are lured to click on a URL and are directed to a fraudulent site, this lure uses a telephone number. The phone number is in the Southern California area code and was answering at the time of this alert.

When victims dial the phone number, the recording requests that they enter their account number.

The phone response does not mention the bank name, which could be a potential indicator that this number is being used for fraud against other entities.

New version of queuemetrics released today..

June 23, 2006

from the asterisk-biz mailing list....

I am pleased to tell you that we have released a new version of
QueueMetrics. The main areas of improvement were the following ones:

- Unattended client monitoring: for large call centers who work for third
parties, it is possible to have your clients log in directly to
QueueMetrics, see a reduced real-time page and monitor calls and agents in
realtime.
- VNC monitoring: it is possible for supervisors and clients to launch a
third-party VNC screen monitoring app to see the screen of your agents in
real-time
- Audio monitoring: it is possible for supervisors and clients to click on
an ongoing call and listen to it through their telephone
- New feature: report mode. It is now possible to download both the
current real-time page and the current full analysis using a simple URL
(useful for automating report extraction using a cron job).
- New feature: inclusive SLA - computes both taken and lost calls.
- New feature for Asterisk@Home/TrixBox users: all channels in the format
Local/XXX@context can be rewritten as Agent entries.
- Explicit session timeout set in web.xml - easier for users to change as
needed.
- QM is now able to correctly parse Asterisk@Home/TrixBox generated
configuration files.

A full list of improvements over version 1.1 can be found at
