Aculab Enhances Support for its Asterisk Channel Driver

January 7, 2012

Milton Keynes, UK (PRWEB) October 21, 2006

Aculab, a leading provider of enabling technology for the communications market, has today announced expansion of its support of the Asterisk channel driver to include: SS7 and CAS protocol support with Prosody X; scalability through multi-card support and high density, DSP-based fax.

Developers looking to use the Linux-based Asterisk software to create communications solutions such as PBXs and IVRs, need a wide range of telephony interfaces and media processing resources. Those deploying a Digium|Asterisk PBX powered by Aculab's Prosody and Prosody X PCI cards can do so with confidence, knowing that they have been tested and proven to be highly stable and reliable products.

Aculab has been monitoring the progression and success of Asterisk with great interest, so the decision to support Asterisk wasn't hard to make, said Ian Colville, Product Manager. "We are very pleased to include Digium as one of our partners and provide further options to our customer base through our support of Asterisk Business Edition."

Prosody and Prosody X PCI benefit from Aculab's proven and extensive range of protocols. This opens up the doors for solution providers, who can now deploy Asterisk Business Edition PBXs around the globe. In addition, because Aculab has gained many host independent approvals, the system should not need to gain further approval in order to connect to a public network.

Each Prosody PCI card can support up to 4 E1 or T1 trunks and offers up to 256 channels of media processing. Prosody X PCI can support up to 8 trunks and offers up to 600 media processing channels per card. The terminations are configured for E1 or T1 under software control, and can run a wide range of protocols including SS7. Prosody relieves the host of DTMF detection and call bridging when used with Digium's Asterisk, freeing up processing power for the application. In the same way, a further set of media processing capabilities such as echo cancellation and fax, which could be enabled under Asterisk, may be powered using Prosodys on board DSPs. The Prosody drivers for Asterisk are available cost free as source code from Aculab's website (http://www.aculab.com), and will be included in Digium's Asterisk Business Edition.
